Our beliefs shape the way we see the world, the choices we make, and the actions we take. If we believe something is impossible, we’re less likely to try. If we believe we can learn and grow, we’re more willing to take risks and persevere.
Even more powerful are the beliefs we hold about ourselves—our identity. We tend to act in ways that are consistent with who we believe we are. If you believe you’re not a creative person, you may never pick up a paintbrush or play with a lump of clay. If you believe you are a generally healthy person you are more likely to live your life in a healthy way, to feel strong and healthy.
The choices we make and how we act reflect our beliefs about ourselves. When we choose to change our beliefs—especially our beliefs about who we are—our actions and how we are will also begin to change.
